40-Year-Old Farmer Dies After Fatal Fall While Loading Paddy Sack
In a heart-wrenching incident, a 40-year-old farmer, Sanjib Das, lost his life after a fatal fall while loading a heavy sack of paddy onto a truck on Tuesday evening. The accident took place at Monughat area under Sabroom police station in South Tripura district.
According to his father, Niranjan Das, Sanjib slipped and collapsed under the weight of the sack he was head-loading. Family members and locals struggled to arrange a vehicle to rush him to the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital, and the delay proved fatal. Sanjib died shortly after the incident.
Police arrived at the hospital upon receiving the information and initiated an investigation.
Officers requested the family’s consent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. However, the grieving father declined the autopsy, stating that the circumstances of the accident were clear to everyone and that he did not want his son’s body to be cut open.
The tragic death has cast a pall of gloom over the area, highlighting once again the risks and vulnerabilities faced by daily wage earners and farmers during routine labour.
