Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked BJP workers of Samaguri to not get intimidated by the violence allegedly resorted by Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain and his henchmen, and to carry out campaigning with courage.
Chief Minister Sarma was on a video call with Barhampur BJP MLA Jitu Goswami last night when he interacted with other BJP leaders and grassroots workers.
“Don’t get afraid and keep working. I will do whatever needs to be done,” Chief Minister Sarma was heard telling fellow BJP leaders and workers.
His message comes in the wake of pre-poll violence in Samaguri, which goes to by-polls on Wednesday (Nov 13), as three rounds of bullets were fired at BJP MLA Jitu Goswami’s car on Saturday night when he was campaigning for party candidate Diplu Ranjan Sarmah.
The attack, Goswami and other BJP leaders said, was carried out from the residence of a Congress leader when they were crossing Mori Puthikhaity area in Samaguri.
Chief Minister Sarma had condemned the attack and said justice will be served and that the Government will not allow anyone to sabotage or undermine the democratic process.
