The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway, as part of regular checking activities, has recovered contraband and narcotics substances valued at over Rs 1.42 crore in October this year. As many as 28 persons have also been apprehended during this period, NF Railway CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated in a release.
He said RPF personnel are regularly conducting checks and drives at stations and trains to control transportation of contraband items.
He further stated that in recently conducted checks and drives from November 1-15, RPF apprehended 3 persons and recovered contraband goods worth over Rs 11.14 lakh from them.
In a recent incident on November 8, RPF and GRP teams of Agartala jointly conducted a checking at Agartala station. During the check the team recovered 10 kg of ganja, worth around Rs 1 lakh and apprehended one person in this connection.
Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further course of action.
In an another incident on November 11, CIB team of RPF Guwahati apprehended 2 persons at Guwahati Railway station and recovered 55 bottles of liquor worth over Rs 10,000.
Later, the apprehended persons along with the recovered liquor were handed over to Excise department, Guwahati for further necessary action.
The RPF of NF Railway regularly undertakes several measures to prevent the use of railways by drug traffickers. RPF teams at various levels in all suspected trains, stations and passenger areas,
conduct frequent drives and checks to ensure the railways remain free from drug trafficking, the release stated.
NF Railway has also asked passengers to dial 139 (Toll-free) if they come across any problem during their train journey.
