Rangia: A three-member gang attacked the victim at his house in Karara near Rangia in Assam before escaping with the huge sum of money and gold jewellery after the brutal physical assault
A sensational robbery took place in Karara area of Rangia in Kamrup district of Assam late Tuesday (Jan 27) night when an armed gang of three looted a staggering Rs 18 lakh in cash along with a cache of gold ornaments.
The victim, identified as Gautam Kalita, was reportedly alone at his house when the three-member gang arrived on a motorcycle, forced their way into the house and launched a violent assault on Kalita.
After overpowering him, the robbers slit his throat and left him critically injured in the backyard of the house before fleeing the scene with the cash and jewellery.
The looted cash — totaling Rs 18 lakh — was kept in an almirah from where it was taken away by the robbers.
The money was acquired from a land sale and personal small-scale savings. Along with the cash, the dacoits also made off with the gold jewellery.
Local residents later found Kalita in an injured condition and alerted authorities.
Rangia Police have officially registered a case and launched an intensive investigation to track down the motorcycle-borne culprits.
While the victim is receiving medical attention, the daring nature of the heist has created an atmosphere of fear and tension in Karara locality.
