PM Modi will also unveil a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Gopinath Bordoloi at the airport premises during the inauguration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Integrated Terminal Building of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI), a landmark infrastructure project developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 1,600 crore as part of a larger investment exceeding Rs 2,000 crore and several other key infrastructure projects during his two-day visit to Assam on December 20-21.
The state-of-the-art terminal is poised to enhance the region’s passenger handling capacity from 3.4 million passengers annually to 13.1 million, with the ability to manage nearly 4,500 passengers during peak hours. Inspired by Assam’s natural landscape, the facility incorporates bamboo-based architecture, orchid motifs, a Sky Forest, and gamocha-themed designs, alongside advanced security systems and Digi Yatra-enabled e-gates.
PM Modi will also unveil a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Gopinath Bordoloi at the airport premises during the inauguration.
In another key engagement, the PM Modi will visit Namrup to lay the foundation stone for a Brownfield Ammonia-Urea Complex with an annual production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes (LMT). Public meetings are scheduled in both Guwahati and Namrup, where the Prime Minister will address the gathering.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took stock of the security arrangements, logistics, crowd management, and event readiness on Wednesday at a high-level meeting in Guwahati attended by all the top police and administration officials.
He directed officials to ensure flawless coordination so that all the programmes of the PM achieve “resounding success.”
Senior officials of Assam Valley Fertiliser & Chemical Company too were present in the meeting.
