Earlier on Nov 25, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had made an explosive statement in the State Assembly saying that Zubeen Garg was murdered and that his death was not a case of “culpable homicide” or “death due to negligence”.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma was participating in a debate on the circumstances leading to the death of heartthrob and cultural icon Zubeen Garg who had passed away under tragic circumstances in Singapore on September 19.
“Even during the initial probe, Assam Police was confirmed that heartthrob Zubeen Garg was murdered and that it is not a case of culpable homicide. After the formation of the SIT, the Assam Government informed the court that it is a case of murder and hence requested the court to include Section 103 of the BNSS along with the other added sections which was added after the court gave the green signal. So, three days after his unfortunate and tragic demise, it had become clear that Zubeen Garg was murdered and his death was not due to negligence,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma had said.
He also said that Assam Police will submit the charge-sheet in the case on Dec 8 and that the government will request the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court to form a fast-track court so that the case is brought to a logic conclusion at the earliest-possible date and that all arrested accused are punished.
He had also criticised Opposition parties for trying to weaken the case by questioning SIT’s probe and said it has been due to SIT’s probe, and the strong steps taken by the Assam Government, that the arrested accused, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, are still behind bars are have not got bail.
