Lovlina outclasses England’s Mary-Kate Smith 4:1 in Women’s 75kg final to extend her international dominance
Assam boxing icon and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain continued her golden run on the global stage by winning the Women’s 75kg gold medal at the prestigious BOXAM Elite International Tournament held at La Nucia, Spain.
In a gripping final, the seasoned Indian boxer showcased her trademark composure and tactical excellence to edge past England’s Mary-Kate Smith via a 4:1 split decision, underlining her status as one of India’s most consistent performers in elite boxing.
The closely fought contest saw both pugilists exchange powerful combinations in an intense, high-pressure atmosphere. However, Lovlina’s superior ring awareness, longer reach, and well-timed counter-attacks helped her control the pace of the bout.
Her sharp accuracy in the later rounds proved decisive, allowing her to outmaneuver Smith and sway the judges in her favor, ultimately sealing a well-earned gold medal.
India also enjoyed a strong showing in the women’s division, with Manju Rani (48kg), Nitu Ghanghas (51kg), Priya (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), and Naina (80kg) advancing to their respective finals after impressive semi-final victories.
Lovlina’s triumph further reinforces India’s growing presence in international boxing and adds another significant accolade to her illustrious career.
