Contractual APDCL worker critically injured after coming into contact with live wire while performing repair works at Juria
A contractual worker of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) was critically injured after being electrocuted while carrying out repair work on an overhead power line in Juria on Saturday (Feb 7).
The victim, identified as Hafiz Uddin, an ad-hoc employee of the State Power Department, was engaged in routine maintenance of a high-voltage line when the incident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, Uddin accidentally came into contact with a live wire, triggering a powerful electric shock that threw him off the electric pole and onto the ground below.
The electrocution resulted in severe burn injuries to his left arm, while the fall caused a fracture to his leg, leaving him in a critical condition.
Following the incident, local residents and fellow workers rushed him to Dagaon Model Hospital for immediate treatment. However, due to the seriousness of his injuries, doctors later referred him to Nagaon Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care.
The incident has triggered anger among locals and the victim’s family members, who have alleged gross negligence on the part of the electricity department. They claim that the power supply was either not properly shut down before the repair work began or was restored prematurely, leading to the accident.
As of the time of filing this report, officials from the electricity department have not released any official statement clarifying the circumstances that led to the electrocution.
