The groom’s family was returning home after the marriage ceremony when a truck rammed their stationary bus on NH-17 in Goalpara’s Agia area
At least two persons, including the groom’s brother, were killed and nine others injured after a speeding truck rammed into a bus carrying a wedding party on National Highway 17 in Goalpara district of Assam early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred in the Agia area when the wedding party was returning from Agia to Golakganj in Dhubri district after the marriage ceremony. The bus, which was reportedly stationary on the highway, was hit by the truck at high speed, resulting in a severe collision.
The deceased have been identified as Naresh Das, the groom’s brother, and Robi Das. The impact of the crash left several passengers injured.
Six injured persons are currently undergoing treatment at Goalpara Civil Hospital, while three others, stated to be in critical condition, have been referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced medical care.
Local authorities reached the spot soon after the accident and carried out rescue operations. The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the local community, with residents expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss of lives during what was meant to be a joyous occasion.
