Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu presented the honour at Wings India 2026 in Hyderabad, marking a major milestone for Arunachal Pradesh’s aviation growth.
In a significant boost to regional connectivity and infrastructure development, Donyi Polo Airport at Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh has been awarded the “Best Airport of Airports Authority of India (AAI) under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)–UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik)”.
The prestigious award was presented by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu during the Wings India 2026 event held in Hyderabad on Friday.
Reacting to the achievement, Chief Minister Pema Khandu termed it a proud moment for the state. In a post on X, he said the recognition would significantly boost connectivity, development, and opportunities for the people of Arunachal Pradesh, while congratulating the Airports Authority of India and all stakeholders involved in the project.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also welcomed the honour, stating that it reflects the collective commitment to improving regional air connectivity, strengthening infrastructure, and unlocking new avenues for growth, tourism, and economic opportunities across the state.
Located about 14 km from the state capital Itanagar, Donyi Polo Airport—also known as Arunachal Airport Hollongi—was developed under the RCS–UDAN initiative to enhance air connectivity in India’s northeastern region. The strategically important airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19, 2022, marking Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport.
