In a significant anti-infiltration operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals near the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura’s Joypur area, on the outskirts of Agartala, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel of the 42 Battalion of the BSF, in coordination with other security agencies, conducted a late-night operation on Friday and detained the two individuals for illegally entering Indian territory without valid travel documents.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jahangir Miah and Hriday Sarkar, both residents of the Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh. Following their detention, the BSF handed them over to the West Agartala Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Confirming the development, Inspector Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station, said the duo was formally arrested and produced before a court, with police seeking remand to facilitate detailed interrogation.
Police officials stated that questioning will focus on determining the purpose of their illegal entry and identifying any agents, touts, or cross-border networks involved in facilitating infiltration.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, Criminal Conspiracy Act, and the Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) Act.
Security agencies have reiterated that vigilance along the Indo-Bangla border has been intensified, with regular joint patrols and coordinated operations being carried out to curb infiltration and other cross-border crimes.
