The accused have been identified as Yasmina Ahmed of Simaluguri and Assadul Islam of Itapara in Assam’s Nagaon district.
In a major breakthrough in a high-value cybercrime case, the Goa Police have arrested two residents of Assam’s Nagaon district for their alleged involvement in a ₹1.42 crore ‘digital arrest’ fraud.
The accused were identified as Yasmina Ahmed of Simaluguri and Assadul Islam of Itapara. The arrests came at the end of a five-day operation carried out by the Goa Police in coordination with local authorities in Assam.
According to the Goa Police, a case was registered in the state after a victim was duped of ₹1.42 crore through a digital arrest scam. During the investigation, technical tracking of the fraud revealed links to Nagaon. Subsequent coordination with the Nagaon Police confirmed that the two suspects had already been arrested in a separate case in December.
Police officials said that SIM cards and IMEI numbers of the mobile phones used in the Goa fraud matched devices previously recovered from the accused, strengthening the case against them.
After securing a transit remand from the court, the Goa Police will take custody of the accused and bring them to Goa for further interrogation and detailed investigation into the wider cybercrime network.
