Tipra Motha founder says political disagreements should not end communication, stresses love and dialogue amid alliance strain.
Amid widening cracks within the ruling NDA alliance in Tripura, Tipra Motha founder and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Debbarma on Tuesday sought to strike a conciliatory note, asserting that differences of opinion between his party and the BJP can be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Addressing concerns over the growing rift, Debbarma said that disagreement is natural in politics but should not lead to a breakdown in communication between allies.
“There are differences of views, and every difference can be resolved. However, if the only disagreement is about winning a political election, then like any political party, Tipra Motha will take its own stance,” he said.
Debbarma clarified that political disagreements do not justify personal attacks, noting that certain remarks made by some BJP leaders had been hurtful. Despite this, he emphasised that confrontation should not replace compassion.
“Disagreements do not mean that communication between the two allies should stop. Certain statements made by a few BJP leaders have been hurtful, and personal attacks do hurt. But hatred should never be met with hatred,” he said.
Reaffirming his belief in reconciliation over hostility, Debbarma added, “Let them hate; I will continue to respond with love. In the end, love will always win over hate.”
The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with barely two months remaining before the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. The differences between Tipra Motha and the BJP have become increasingly visible, exposing deeper political and ideological fault lines within the NDA alliance in the state.
What was once portrayed as a stable partnership now appears fragile, marked by public exchanges, contrasting narratives on development, and competing visions of leadership and tribal identity.
