As many as 10 Indian Army personnel lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries, after a military vehicle plunged into a 200-foot-deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday.
According to officials, the accident took place near Khanni Top on the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road when a bulletproof Casspir vehicle, carrying Army personnel to a high-altitude operational post, skidded off the road after the driver reportedly lost control.
Immediately after the mishap, Army, police and local residents launched a joint rescue operation. The injured soldiers were pulled out from the gorge and rushed to a nearby military hospital, with some of them airlifted for advanced medical treatment.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident. Taking to X, he said he was deeply saddened by the loss of 10 brave Indian Army personnel in a tragic road accident in Doda, noting that their exemplary service and supreme sacrifice would always be remembered. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and said the entire nation stands in solidarity with them during this moment of immense grief. He also informed that the injured soldiers have been airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident.
