Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla inspected the ceremonial parade and called upon citizens to strengthen unity, democratic values, and collective development.
Manipur commemorated its 55th Statehood Day with a solemn and dignified ceremony at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground on Wednesday, reaffirming the state’s commitment to unity, democracy, and inclusive development.
The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, attended the event as the chief guest, while the celebration was also graced by Members of the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Secretary, the Security Advisor, the Director General of Police, and senior civil and police officials.
The highlight of the ceremony was the general salute and inspection of the parade by Governor Bhalla. A march-past by 15 contingents, accompanied by an impressive performance from the Combined Band Platoons, added ceremonial grandeur to the occasion. The parade was commanded by N. Madhunimai, MPS, Commanding Officer of the 8th Manipur Rifles.
During the programme, certificates of commendation were awarded to Th. Kirankumar, Secretary (IT), Nambam Deben Singh, Director of the Department of Information Technology (DIT), G. Robert Sharma, Joint Director (DIT), and Konsam Vivek Meitel, Informatics Officer (DIT), in recognition of their services.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Bhalla urged the people of Manipur to uphold peace, unity, and democratic ideals, stressing the importance of collective efforts for inclusive and sustainable development. He also conveyed greetings and best wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of the state on the occasion.
Recalling that Manipur attained full statehood on January 21, 1972, the Governor said the day symbolises the democratic aspirations of the people and their integration into the Indian Union. He highlighted the state’s rich history, cultural diversity, and strong identity, noting that Manipur stands as a testament to India’s principle of unity in diversity through constitutional empowerment and democratic institutions.
Referring to recent high-level engagements, Governor Bhalla said the President of India’s visit to Manipur reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to constitutional values, unity, and inclusive growth, with several development projects inaugurated and meaningful interactions held with diverse sections of society.
