APIYO President Taro Sonam Liyak says demands raised four months ago remain unaddressed despite repeated assurances from the Arunachal government
The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organization (APIYO) has accused the state government of turning a blind eye to long-pending issues raised by the group, warning that it will launch a democratic movement if its demands are not met by January 22, 2026.
APIYO President Taro Sonam Liyak, addressing the media on Tuesday, said the organization had flagged several serious concerns nearly four months ago, including the demolition of illegal structures and regulation of unauthorized weekly markets, but claimed that no concrete action has been taken so far.
Liyak said that a memorandum was submitted to the government on December 23, 2025, along with a one-month ultimatum, demanding strict action against suspected illegal immigrants and the demolition of unauthorized religious structures in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
“The government assured us that the issues would be resolved and that the illegal structure of Jama Masjid would be demolished. However, nothing has been done till date. Therefore, Team APIYO has decided not to disclose anything further for now. After January 22, we will decide our future course of action on that day,” Liyak said.
Reiterating APIYO’s commitment to the protection and welfare of Arunachal Pradesh, he emphasized that any movement undertaken by the organization would remain democratic and aimed at safeguarding indigenous interests.
Among the key demands raised by APIYO are:
- Removal of suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from the state
- Immediate ban or strict regulation of weekly markets in the Capital Complex, Doimukh, and Hollongi due to alleged unregulated vendors
- Comprehensive review and verification of all religious institutions in the Capital Complex to ensure they have proper authorization
Expressing strong dissatisfaction with the government’s response, Liyak said, “The government is blind, deaf, and dumb. The Chief Minister gives lectures but does not act. Our issues remain unresolved, and until they are addressed, we will not give up.”
APIYO has warned that continued inaction—particularly over the issue of alleged illegal structures, including Jama Masjid—will compel the organization to announce a major course of action after January 22.
