The awareness campaign was led by Byrnihat Police Station OC Sunny Lynrah, focusing on traffic discipline and highway safety in Ri Bhoi district.
In a proactive move to enhance highway safety and encourage responsible driving, Byrnihat Police in Meghalaya organised a road safety awareness drive for truck drivers along National Highway-6 in Ri Bhoi district.
The campaign was conducted at the busy 13th Mile area, a major traffic corridor witnessing heavy movement of commercial vehicles on a daily basis. During the drive, several trucks were stopped and drivers were sensitised about traffic rules, safe driving practices, and their role in preventing road accidents.
The initiative was led by Officer-in-Charge of Byrnihat Police Station, Sunny Lynrah, along with other police personnel. The team personally interacted with truck drivers and distributed road safety awareness leaflets to reinforce key messages.
Police officials highlighted the importance of strict adherence to traffic laws to ensure the safety of drivers as well as other road users. The awareness drive, conducted in line with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, focused on preventing violations such as drunken driving, over-speeding, wrong-side driving, and other risky behaviours.
Truck drivers were urged to follow traffic regulations diligently and adopt responsible driving habits to help reduce accidents and make highways safer for everyone.
