Joint security operations across Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts led to the arrest of militants linked to banned outfits and the seizure of heroin, cough syrups and narcotic tablets.
In a series of coordinated counter-insurgency and anti-narcotics operations conducted over the weekend, security forces in Manipur arrested four individuals linked to banned insurgent organisations and two suspected narcotics traffickers, officials said.
The operations were carried out across Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts as part of intensified efforts to curb militancy and the growing drug menace in the state.
On Sunday, security personnel arrested an active cadre and extortionist of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) from Imphal East district. In a separate operation at New Checkon in Imphal, two active cadres of the National Revolutionary Front (NRF) of Manipur were apprehended for their alleged role in recruiting new members for the outfit.
Earlier on Saturday, an active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) was also arrested from Imphal East district.
Meanwhile, the crackdown on narcotics-related activities continued with the arrest of a man from the Mayang area in Imphal, from whom six soap cases containing suspected heroin were recovered. In another operation in Thoubal district on Saturday, security forces apprehended one more individual and seized a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics, including cough syrup bottles and tablets.
Security agencies said such operations will continue as part of sustained efforts to dismantle insurgent networks and disrupt drug trafficking routes in the state.
