Assam Government Raises Age Limit for Police Constable Recruitment to 26 Years
In a major relief for aspiring police recruits, the Assam government has increased the upper age limit for Assam Police constable recruitment from 25 to 26 years. The minimum age requirement remains unchanged at 18 years.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a Facebook Live interaction, where he said the decision was taken after considering long-pending demands from eligible aspirants who had narrowly missed previous recruitment opportunities.
To further support candidates, the state government has also extended the application window by 15 days, providing additional time for applicants to complete the recruitment process.
Addressing concerns raised by differently-abled candidates, CM Sarma said a provision for a second medical examination will now be introduced during the recruitment process to ensure fairness and transparency.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also announced that the ‘Swagata Satirtha’ portal will soon be launched to facilitate mutual transfers for Grade III and Grade IV government employees appointed through the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE).
The latest measures are expected to benefit thousands of youth across the state and strengthen inclusivity in government recruitment.
