Bhogali Bihu Turns Tragic in Teok: 2 Youths Killed, 4 Critically Injured as SUV Rams into Crowd
What began as festive preparations for Bhogali Bihu ended in tragedy in Assam’s Teok after a horrific road accident claimed two young lives and left four others critically injured.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning in the Hahchora area when a speeding Scorpio (registration number AS-03AN-9141) reportedly lost control and ploughed into a group of youths who were setting up temporary roadside stalls for Bihu-related business.
The impact was devastating, killing Abhijit Phukan and Amrit Gogoi on the spot. Four others — Pranjit Gogoi, Manas Gogoi, Pankaj Dutta, and Ponakan Gogoi — sustained serious injuries.
All the injured were rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) for emergency treatment. Due to the deterioration of his condition, Pankaj Dutta was later referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, for advanced care.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Mintu Gogoi, fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police have launched a search operation to trace and arrest the accused.
The tragedy has plunged Dihingia village under Bamun Pukhuri in Hahchora into deep mourning, as both deceased youths hailed from the same locality. Shock and grief prevail across the community.
Local residents have expressed strong outrage over the incident, alleging reckless driving, and are demanding stringent action against the absconding driver.
