Three others, including the infant son of the deceased woman, were critically injured after the truck veered off the road in Goroimari in South Kamrup, Assam
A pall of gloom descended over Borbhitha area of Goroimari in South Kamrup of Assam early this morning (Jan 12) following a devastating road accident that claimed the lives of a mother and her minor daughter.
The incident occurred when a dumper truck transporting sand lost control and overturned, crashing directly into a residential house. The impact of the heavy vehicle caused the structure to collapse, trapping the occupants underneath.
Saleha Khatun and her 4-year-old daughter Najma Khatun died on the spot due to the severity of the impact.
In addition to the fatalities, three other family members sustained serious injuries. Among the injured is the one-year-old infant of the deceased woman.
Local residents rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations, pulling the survivors from the debris. The injured were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Witnesses at the scene expressed outrage over the reckless driving often associated with sand-carrying dumpers in South Kamrup.
Police have launched an investigation into possible mechanical failure or driver negligence that may have caused the vehicle to veer off the road.
