A large rhino charged at the vehicle of MLA Phanidhar Talukdar at Bahbari Range of Manas National Park in Assam
What began as a routine visit to Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, turned into a frightening experience for Bhawanipur MLA Phanidhar Talukdar and several tourists on Sunday (January 11).
During a tour of the Bahbari Range, a massive one-horned rhinoceros suddenly emerged from dense vegetation and charged toward the vehicle carrying the MLA, triggering panic among the visitors.
The sudden sight of the powerful animal rushing at high speed sent shockwaves through the convoy. Several vehicles following the MLA’s car were caught in the chaos as the rhino continued its aggressive charge.
A major tragedy was narrowly avoided thanks to the presence of mind and swift action of the driver, who managed to steer the vehicle away in time. The MLA and the tourists in the trailing vehicles escaped unhurt, though the encounter left everyone shaken.
Following the incident, Phanidhar Talukdar shared a video of the dramatic moment on his official Facebook page. The footage, highlighting the raw and unpredictable nature of wildlife at Manas, quickly went viral on social media, reigniting discussions around tourist safety and wildlife management in protected areas.
