Assam Rifles leads coordinated operations with multiple agencies, dealing major blows to narcotics networks in Tripura, Assam and Mizoram
Assam Rifles has intensified its fight against drug trafficking in Northeast India, destroying an illegal ganja plantation worth an estimated Rs 36 crore in Tripura. The large-scale operation underlines the force’s firm resolve to curb narcotics and related criminal activities that pose a serious threat to regional security.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Assam Rifles launched the operation in the Dhanpur, Induria, Kacchakhala and Dhanmura areas, located around 66 km south of Agartala. The drive was conducted in close coordination with the Border Security Force, Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles and the Forest Department, ensuring effective ground-level execution.
During the operation, nearly six lakh ganja saplings were uprooted and destroyed. The illegal cultivation was spread across about 200 acres of land. Officials assessed the market value of the destroyed crop at approximately Rs 36 crore, terming it a significant setback for drug syndicates operating in the region.
Authorities said the action reflects the sustained vigilance and proactive approach of Assam Rifles and allied agencies in dismantling narcotics supply chains at their source, thereby helping reduce drug-related crimes in the Northeast.
In another successful operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, seized counterfeit cigarettes worth around Rs 34 lakh from a godown in Silchar. Officials revealed that the fake cigarettes were being routed through Silchar for wider distribution within the state.
Earlier, Assam Rifles also registered a major success in Mizoram near the Indo-Myanmar border. Working jointly with Mizoram Police, the force recovered over 11 kg of methamphetamine tablets from the Kaifang area of Saitual district. The seized drugs, valued at more than Rs 33 crore in the international market, along with a vehicle, were handed over to the authorities for further legal proceedings.
These operations collectively highlight Assam Rifles’ crucial role in safeguarding the Northeast by targeting drug trafficking and illegal trade networks across the region.
