Police launched a rescue operation to pull out the accused who got stuck in an exhaust fan hole during a theft attempt in Rajasthan’s Kota
In a bizarre turn of events that has since gone viral on social media, a burglary attempt in Kota’s Pratap Nagar area was literally “squeezed” to a halt. A thief found himself trapped in a narrow exhaust fan opening for over an hour before being rescued and subsequently arrested by the police.
ALL ABOUT THE INCIDENT
The homeowner, Subhash Kumar Ahir, and his wife had been away since January 3 on a pilgrimage to the Khatu Shyam Temple.
When the couple returned home around 1:00 am on Sunday night, they noticed something unusual at the back of their house.
As Ahir parked his scooter, the headlight illuminated the kitchen wall, revealing a man’s torso dangling from the exhaust fan hole.
The suspect had successfully managed to get his head and shoulders through the opening but became wedged at the waist, unable to move forward or backward.
Upon being discovered, the trapped thief’s accomplice, who was reportedly waiting in a nearby car, fled the scene immediately.
The house owner alerted the neighbours and contacted Borkheda Police Station.
A police team arrived shortly after and had to perform a delicate “rescue” operation to free the man from the masonry. The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Pawan Vaishnav, a resident of Digod.
“It was a scene straight out of a comedy, but it could have been a serious theft. We found him crying for help because the pressure from the wall was making it hard for him to breathe,” a police officer said.
Borkheda Police, meanwhile, registered a case of attempted burglary and are investigating whether the duo is linked to other recent break-ins in Pratap Nagar locality of the Rajasthan town.
REACTION
The incident has sparked a mix of amusement and concern among local residents. While the “stuck thief” video has garnered thousands of views online, neighbours have expressed frustration over increasing theft attempts in the area, calling for more frequent night patrols.
