Assam: Couple Burnt Alive Over Witchcraft Allegations in West Karbi Anglong
In an unfortunate incident, a couple was burnt alive by an agitated mob in the West Karbi Anglong district of Assam over allegations of witchcraft.
The victims have been identified as Gardi Biruwa and Mira Biruwa. Their house was set on fire by the frenzied mob.
The shocking incident has been reported from No. 1 Beloguri Munda village of the Howraghat area of the district.
Meanwhile, the barbaric incident has caused intense outrage throughout the area, and police, along with the local administration officials, are carrying out the preliminary probe into the incident.
Despite the social and technological progress, people still believe in superstition and witchcraft, especially in the rural and remote areas. Incidents like this need to be urgently addressed by the government and local NGOs through education and awareness campaigns. The government must ensure strict enforcement to eradicate such superstition-driven crimes.
