In a very concerning development, another HIndu man has been shot dead in Bangladesh amid a disturbing spate of killings targeting members of the Hindu community in the nation.
The latest incident is the third killing of a Hindu man in the nation in less than two weeks.
Forty-two-year-old Bajendra Biswas, a Hindu security guard at a garment factory in Bhaluka Upazila, was shot dead on Monday evening by a colleague, identified by police as Noman Mia (29) who was later taken into custody.
The shooting took place inside the premises of a garment factory named Sultana Sweaters Limited.
Both men were reportedly members of Ansar — a uniformed auxiliary force — positioned for factory security.
The incident took place around 6:45pm yesterday and both were on duty, police said.
Police, a section of media reports said, described the incident a case of “accidental firing”.
The incident is the third incident of killing of Hindu persons in Bangladesh and amid a growing spate of attacks on Hindus in the neighbouring country.
On December 18, a garment worker named Dipu Chandra Das was lynched by a mob in Mymensingh. His body was tied to a tree and set on fire along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, triggering shock and anger across the world.
Another Hindu man named Amrit Mondal was lynched by a mob in Rajbari’s Pangsha sub-district on December 24.
