Foreign Tourist Numbers at Kaziranga Jump 127% in Three Years, Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
Kaziranga National Park is once again in the global spotlight, and this time it is because of a huge rise in foreign tourists. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that international visitor numbers to Kaziranga have increased by more than 127 percent in just three years. This sharp rise shows growing global trust in Assam’s tourism and wildlife protection efforts.
Sharing the update on social media, the Chief Minister said the world is discovering KNP “like never before.” He explained that better conservation, strong local involvement, and Assam’s rich culture are attracting visitors from across the globe. Inviting tourists, he wrote, “Come and experience #AwesomeAssam.”
Official data shared by the Assam government shows that Kaziranga welcomed 2,947 foreign tourists in 2022–23. This number has jumped to 6,699 foreign visitors in 2025–26 till December 27, 2025. The steady increase over three years highlights how the park has become a preferred wildlife destination for international travellers.
Kaziranga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous worldwide for its one-horned rhinoceros and rich biodiversity. Tourists also come to see elephants, tigers, birds, and the unique grassland ecosystem that makes the park special. Improved safety, better facilities, and responsible tourism have played a key role in this growth.
The Assam government has been actively promoting Kaziranga by focusing on conservation-led tourism. Local communities are also involved in tourism activities, which helps protect nature while creating jobs. This model is now being seen as an example for wildlife tourism not only in India but across the world.
With foreign tourist numbers rising fast, Kaziranga is strengthening Assam’s tourism economy and global image. The latest figures clearly show that Kaziranga is no longer just a famous national park, but a world-class wildlife destination drawing attention from every corner of the globe.
