A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan from Cachar district of Assam died at the CRPF camp at Vairengte, Mizoram, after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while playing badminton with his colleagues.
The incident took place late Sunday night when the deceased, identified as Ranjit Singha — a resident of Laothai Basti of Udharbond in Cachar district, Assam — was playing badminton with fellow colleagues at the Vairengte camp of the paramilitary force.
While he was in the middle of a game, he suddenly complained of uneasiness and collapsed on the court.
Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
The mortal remains were brought to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for a post-mortem on Monday and, upon being handed over to family members, were cremated with full State honours.
He is survived by his wife and minor son along with a host of other relatives, well-wishers and friends.
Singha’s colleagues and family members are in shock and grief, particularly since he always kept himself fit and healthy, and was a regular in the badminton court at the camp.
