Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi also said that no decision has been taken to leave Naoboicha seat to Raijor Dol
Amid the much talked-about issue of Opposition unity ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, APCC president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday (Dec 28) dropped a political gauntlet, announcing that the Congress party will field candidates in 100 out of the 126 seats in next year’s assembly elections in the State meaning that the 15 other constituents will be left with just 26 seats to contest.
The announcement has evoked surprise and even shock among other Opposition partners, particularly since the announcement was made without finalising seat-sharing with other Opposition parties.
The announcement came after Akhil Gogoi’s announcement where he announced that Raijor Dol will field its party candidate in Naoboicha seat.
The Sivasagar MLA had announced that Harikanta Das will be the party candidate from Naoboicha seat while also seeking Ranganodi constituency for Raijor Dol.
He has also been batting for finalisation of seats among the Opposition parties “as soon as possible”.
Gaurav Gogoi, while reacting to the development, claimed that no decision has been taken as to who will contest from Naoboicha.
