The Pune couple was reportedly in a relationship for over two years but separated just 24 hours after their wedding
A Pune couple ended their marriage just 24 hours after their wedding due to differences about their future life together, reports have said.
The Pune couple — the bride a doctor and the groom an engineer — was reportedly in a relationship for over two years.
Reports said they chose to end the marriage amicably through mutual consent, highlighting an uncommon but increasingly discussed trend in modern relationships.
Just hours after tying the nuptial knot, the Pune couple had disagreements over their living situation, and the ideological differences — the advocate who handled their case was quoted by various media outlets — were so serious that they chose to separate without any delay.
“In the wake of the differences, the couple opted to follow the legal process calmly and ended their marriage by mutual consent,” advocate Rani Sonawane said.
Professionals, Not Strangers
* The bride is a doctor, and the groom is an engineer, both professionals in their fields.
* Despite years together as a couple, serious disagreements came to the fore almost immediately after the wedding.
Why the couple separated?
Legal sources involved in the case revealed that the principal issue was a disagreement over future living arrangements — particularly permanent residency and work commitments.
* The groom reportedly works on a ship and was unable to clarify where or when he would be posted, creating uncertainty over where the couple would live.
* These ideological and lifestyle differences, which neither party had sufficiently addressed before the wedding, became decisive enough that they chose to pursue divorce by mutual consent without delay.
Swift Legal Process
Normally in India, divorce proceedings can take months or years. However, in this case:
* The couple approached the family court immediately and completed the legal process very quickly, finishing the divorce formalities in just a matter of days.
* Advocate Rani Sonawane, who facilitated the proceedings, noted that there were no allegations of violence or criminal conduct — the separation was amicable and conducted respectfully through proper legal channels.
Public Reaction
The quick divorce has sparked a debate about marriages in modern times leading to discussions on social media and in public forums about the nature of modern relationships and whether long courtships always translate into stable marriages.
Some commentators have suggested that important conversations about long-term plans and expectations should occur before marriage, especially when the couple has been together for years.
“A marriage ending in 24 hours feels shocking, but it also exposes a deeper truth: commitment cannot outrun compatibility. Perhaps this isn’t a failure of marriage, but a reminder that clarity before vows matters more than endurance after them,” a person wrote on ‘X’.
