Manipur: The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the arrest of Ilaj Ali Laskar (29) from Lalpani, Cachar, Assam
In a significant breakthrough, Assam Rifles in coordination with the Manipur Police busted a major drug operation in Jiribam district on Thursday evening, seizing 1,60,000 Yaba tablets worth an estimated Rs40 crore.
The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the arrest of Ilaj Ali Laskar (29) from Lalpani, Cachar, Assam. Authorities recovered the tablets from a truck registered as AS24 AC-3721, which was reportedly used to transport the contraband. The total weight of the seized psychotropic substance was 18.6 kilograms.
The arrested person and the recovered drugs have been handed over to Jiribam Police for further investigation.
Yaba tablets, a dangerous psychotropic drug, have been linked to increasing drug abuse and trafficking concerns in the northeastern region of India. Officials said the seizure is a major blow to organized drug networks operating in Manipur and neighbouring states.
Further investigations are underway to trace the source and distribution network of the consignment.
