Jorhat: Local residents noticed the body floating in the pond on Friday morning and immediately informed the authorities
Sensation prevailed in Assam’s Jorhat town on Friday after the body of a man was recovered under mysterious circumstances from a pond located on the premises of Delhi Public School (DPS) in northeast Jorhat.
The deceased has been identified as Prasenjit Saikia, a resident of Randhanijan village under Maloupathar. According to sources, Saikia had been missing since December 22, following which a search was underway by his family members.
Local residents noticed the body floating in the pond on Friday morning and immediately informed the authorities. Police personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the body in the presence of magistrates, later sending it for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and speculation in the area, with residents demanding a thorough investigation. Police officials stated that all possible angles are being examined and that further details will emerge after the post-mortem report.
An investigation has been launched.
