Two people were killed on Thursday near the Assam-Meghalaya border at Dudhnoi after they were attacked by wild elephants
In a tragic incident, a woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Dudhnoi in Goalpara district of Assam, taking the total number of people killed in elephant attacks in the area in the past 24 hours to three.
A wild elephant attacked the woman named Kanika Khaklari (50) at Kushdhowa village, injuring her seriously. Although she was rushed to a hospital in Goalpara, she died on the way to the medical centre.
Incidentally, two persons had died near the Assam-Meghalaya border at Krishnai in Goalpara district of Assam on Thursday after they were attacked by wild elephants.
The deceased — Jaleswar Rabha and Dabal Rabha — were killed on the spot when they were attacked by the pachyderms that entered their village located near the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Villagers said incidents of elephant herds straying into villages have become an almost routine affair and accused the Forest Department of taking steps to prevent pachyderms from entering human settlements.
