Aizawl Traffic Police, in order to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and avoid traffic congestion, imposed a no-vehicle zone in select areas
Mizoram, the state that won the national award for traffic system discipline, is once again setting an example for the whole nation by enforcing a no-vehicle zone in key commercial areas of the capital to manage the festive rush.
As the spirit of Christmas Eve filled the air in Aizawl, the city witnessed a massive surge of shoppers and celebrants, prompting authorities to implement a no-vehicle zone across major commercial streets, ensuring smooth movement, enhancing public safety, and effectively managing the large crowds drawn out by the festive celebrations.
Bara Bazaar, one of Aizawl’s major commercial hubs, was packed with shoppers from the early morning, along with other key market hubs. People thronged the streets to purchase last-minute Christmas essentials such as meat, vegetables, cakes, decorations, and gifts, turning the markets into a sea of festive activity. Despite the heavy crowd, the atmosphere remained cheerful, with vendors reporting brisk business throughout the day.
The Aizawl Traffic Police, in order to ensure smooth pedestrian movement and avoid traffic congestion, imposed a no-vehicle zone in selected areas, with the roadside filled with vendors, allowing only emergency vehicles to pass. The measure was widely welcomed and commended by the public, as it enabled safer and easier movement amid the dense crowds.
Security personnel and traffic were deployed in large numbers to regulate crowd flow and maintain order. Authorities also appealed to the public to cooperate with traffic regulations and observe safety measures while celebrating and enjoying the festival.
At night, churches across the city organized Christmas Eve services, marking the culmination of the day’s celebrations. With lights and bustling streets, Aizawl once again reflected the warmth and unity that define Christmas in Mizoram.
Notably, on Tuesday, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma participated in the state’s first-ever Christmas costume parade, an initiative designed to highlight Mizoram’s unique Christmas celebrations, which are deeply rooted in community participation, faith-based traditions, and the region’s rich cultural heritage.
