Seven long-time co-artistes of Zubeen Garg announced the formation of a new band named ‘Jontro’ and will perform exclusively songs sung, composed and written by Zubeen Garg
Seven co-artistes of Assam musical icon Zubeen Garg, who had assisted the heartthrob during musical shows and recordings for decades, have announced the formation of a new musical band named ‘Jontro’ with the objective of keeping alive the timeless music and legacy of the legendary artist.
Partha, Raja, Diganta, Dipkesh, Priyanku, Rishav, and Anjan — who had closely worked with Zubeen Garg for decades — will continue their musical journey together even after the tragic demise of the music maestro.
United by shared memories and deep respect, the group aims to carry forward Zubeen Garg’s rich artistic heritage.
“For a long time, we were an integral part of Zubeen Garg‘s musical life. It is still difficult to accept that he is no longer with us. However life must go on, and the least we can do in his memory is to preserve and present his songs and music. This band is our tribute to Zubeen,” they said.
‘Jontro’ will perform exclusively songs sung, composed, or written by Zubeen, and will feature renowned Assamese singer Rupam Bhuyan.
Along with honouring Zubeen Garg’s musical legacy, ‘Jontro’ also aims to encourage and nurture new musical talents.
The band plans to introduce two new singers one male and one female who will be mentored and groomed before being formally presented to the audience.
Appealing for public support, the band members said they seek the blessings and encouragement of the people of Assam and the North East.
“Their support will help preserve and celebrate the immortal music of Zubeen Garg,’ Partha Goswami, who accompanied Zubeen on drums, added.
Incidentally, this is the second band comprising former band-members of the iconic singer and musical composer after members of Zubeen’s first-ever band formally relaunched themselves in a new avatar at the 14th Dibrugarh Book fair last Thursday.
The band comprising Chabin Kumar Das (Rabu) on drums, Donny Hazarika on keyboards, Bhaskar Saikia (Ritu) on lead guitar, and Dudul Saikia on keyboards was reintroduced under the name ‘Z.Org’ (Zed Dot Org) as a tribute to the enduring musical legacy of one of Assam’s favourite and greatest singers of all times.
‘Z.Org’ will be managed by Jayanta Bordoloi, Zubeen Garg’s first manager.
