Authorities have launched a massive search operation across Haflong and surrounding areas to apprehend the absconding prisoner
In a shocking incident, Ronaldo Haflongbar, an undertrial prisoner lodged at Haflong Sub-Jail, escaped from police custody while undergoing medical treatment at Haflong Civil Hospital on Monday. The circumstances surrounding his escape remain unclear, though preliminary reports suggest possible lapses in security protocols.
Authorities have launched a massive search operation across Haflong and surrounding areas to apprehend the absconding prisoner. Police officials have not yet disclosed Haflongbar’s charges or further background details.
This marks the second major escape of prisoner lodged in Haflong Sub-Jail within a month. On November 5, Betsing Jidung, also known as John Dimasa Jidung, a former cadre of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), had fled from the facility.
Haflong Sub-Jail has been under scrutiny for its security measures, especially as it houses high-profile inmates, including drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amrit Prabha Mahanta, both key accused in the Zubeen Garg death case.
The repeated security breaches have renewed concerns regarding the oversight of the jail and the management of undertrial prisoners during hospital visits. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings of the escaped prisoner.
Police investigations are ongoing.
