The District & Sessions Court in Guwahati fixed Jan 3 as the next date of hearing in the Zubeen Garg death case trial
All seven arrested accused in the Zubeen Garg death case were produced before the District & Sessions Court in Guwahati virtually as the trial in tragic and unfortunate death case of the heartthrob resumed today (Dec 22).
After the 7 arrested accused — Northeast India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg‘s manager Shiddharth Sharma, his cousin brother and APS officer Sandipan Garg, drummer Shekharjyoti Goswami, co-singer Amrit Prabha Mahanta and the late singer’s PSOs Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Borah — were produced before the court, it fixed January 3 as the next date of hearing in the case when charges will the court will frame charges against the seven accused.
While Shyamkanu Mahanta, Shiddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg and the two PSOs Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Borah are currently lodged at Baksa District Jail, drummer Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta are lodged at Haflong jail.
Incidentally, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police probing the tragic, untimely and death of cultural icon and heartthrob Zubeen Garg had submitted a 2,500-page charge sheet in Kamrup CJM Court while slapping murder charges under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on four of the seven arrested accused — Shyamkanu Mahanta, Shiddharth Sharma, drummer Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta.
Meanwhile, Zubeen Garg’s sister Dr Palmee Borthakur was present in court today and said that she hopes that her brother will get justice while expressing her and the family’s faith on the the government, the SIT of Assam Police and judiciary.
Significantly, she also announced that they are yet to get the certified copy of the charge sheet and said that she saw absolutely no remorse on the faces of the seven accused while they were produced before the court virtually.
Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that Amrit Prava Mahanta against whom murder charges have been applied in the charge sheet has taken the services of a lawyer named Gabriel Sahu, who has been practising at the Gauhati High Court since 2012, to defend her during the trial.
