Bangladesh: Dipu Chandra Das was first beaten to death, then tied to a tree and burnt
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh, the country’s chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus said.
Those arrested include Md. Limon Sarkar, Md. Tarek Hossain, Md. Manik Mia, Ershad Ali, Nijum Uddin, Alomgir Hossain, and Md. Miraj Hossain Akon.
Taking to X, Yunus who has been acting as the in-charge of the interim government in the neighbouring country wrote, “In the incident of beating to death Sanatan Dharma adherent youth Dipu Chandra Das (27) in Valuka, Mymensingh, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven individuals as suspects. The arrested individuals are Md Limon Sarkar (19), Md Tarek Hossain, Md Manik Mia (20), Ershad Ali (39), Nijum Uddin (20), Alomgir Hossain (38), and Md Miraj Hossain Akon (46). RAB-14 conducted operations at various locations and arrested the aforementioned suspects.”
Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth who worked at a local garment factory and lived in Dubalia Para area of Square Master Bari in Bhaluka upazila was first beaten up by a group of agitated youth for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad and after he died because of the beating, his body was tied to a tree and burnt.
The chief advisor further mentioned that the arrests were the result of coordinated operations by RAB units in the area, with RAB-14 conducting raids at various locations to apprehend the suspects.
Bangladesh has been on the boil since December 18 when Sharif Osman Hadi, a youth leader of the radical Inquilab Mancha, known for his anti-India rhetoric, died in Singapore. Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 in Dhaka while he was returning after offering the Friday prayers in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw. He was a candidate for the February general elections.
He had reportedly circulated maps of the so-called ‘Greater Bangladesh’ that included the northeastern states.
