Manipur: The militants were arrested between Dec 14 and 19 across Imphal East and West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts
Security forces arrested a total of 13 militants between December 14 and 19 from Imphal East and West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts of Manipur during multiple operations. The forces also recovered a large amount of arms and ammunition.
On Dec 19, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front/ People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) from Meitei Lamkhai Crossing under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district. The arrested militant was identified as Thangjam Surankumar Singh (29) from Imphal East district.
On Dec 18, four United National Liberation Front (P) members from different locations in Imphal West district were arrested. The UNLF members were arrested from a hijacked truck loaded with boxes of iced fish from Maharabi to Pheidinga stretch, under Sekmai Police Station. The arrested cadres were identified as Borish Sagolsem (25) of Yairipok Laimanai, Imphal East District, Herojit Sharma (32) of Yairipok Bishnunaha Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District, Asem Amar Meitei (20) of Sabal Awang Leikai, Bishnupur District and Md. Salman Khan (35) of Yairipok Tulihal, Imphal East.
The drivers and co-drivers of the seized vehicles were arrested and identified as Pukhrambam Mukhesh Singh (23) from Torbung Bangla, Bishnupur District, Waikhom Bijen Meitei (31), and Loukrakpam Shitaljit Singh (32) from Yairipok Nungaipokpi Mamang Leikai, Imphal East District.
Following the indiscriminate firing by Kuki armed groups at Torbung on Dec 16, an FIR was filled for further investigation, after which the concerned DIG and other senior police officials recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the place of the incident. The seized cache included one Long Range Improvised Pumpi, four Medium Range Improvised Pumpi, one Medium Range Barrel-Blasted Improvised Pumpi, one IED weighing approximately 3 kgs, one Single Barrel firearm, and seventeen empty cases of different calibre. An IED device was also safely disposed of by the Bomb Disposal Squad.
Furthermore, on Dec 16, security forces arrested an active cadre of SOREPA from Lamding Nashikhong Leikai area under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district. The arrested cadre has been identified as Khundrakpam Bitanjit Meitei (31) of Heirok Pt-II in Laimayum of Thoubal district. A mobile phone with SIM card was seized from him.
In another operation, on Dec 16, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of PREPAK, named Wahengbam Ibomcha Singh (43) of Kumbi Khugawangma under Kumbi Police Station of Bishnupur district from his residence. On the same day, Security Forces arrested an active cadre extortionist of KCP (PWG), named Sapam Dhanajit (42) of Wabagai Thingel Leikai, Kakching district from Umathel Mathak Leikai under Waikhong-Police Station of Kakching district. A mobile phone was seized from him.
Another active cadre of National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), named Ningthoujam Khelemba Meitei (28) of Churachandpur Khumujamba Meitei Leikai in Imphal East district was arrested by security forces on Dec 15 from Nambol Bazar near Leimapokpam crossing area under Nambol Police Station of Bishnupur district.
Similarly, on the same day, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of RPF/PLA named Sanasam Thajamanbi Singh (40) of Thongju Boroi Makhong in Imphal West district from his locality under Singjamei Police Station. A mobile phone was seized from him.
Moreover, on Dec 14, an active cadre named Thingnam Amujao Meitei (57) of Kangleipak Communist Party, KCP (PWG), was arrested from Waikhong Uyung area under Waikhong Police Station of Kakching district.
