PM Narendra Modi will also perform the bhoomi pujan for the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi international airport today (Dec 20) afternoon on a 2-day visit to Assam.
He was received at the airport by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acahrya, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, among others.
Immediately after his arrival, he inaugurated the swanky new terminal of the airport which is spread over nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, and has been designed to handle up to 1.3 crore passengers annually.
The new terminal which is also the country’s first nature-themed airport draws inspiration from Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage under the theme “Bamboo Orchids”.
The new terminal incorporates extensive use of locally sourced bamboo, Kaziranga-inspired landscaping, japi motifs, rhino symbolism and orchid-themed architectural elements.
A “Sky Forest” with nearly one lakh indigenous plants has also been created to provide passengers with a distinctive arrival experience along with advanced passenger-friendly features such as DigiYatra-enabled contactless travel, automated baggage handling, full-body scanners and AI-driven airport operations which have been integrated to enhance efficiency and security.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated an 80-foot-tall statue of Gopinath Bordoloi, Assam’s first Chief Minister, besides also addressing a large public rally which was attended by over 1 lakh people.
He will also attend a road show from the airport to the State BJP headquarters and becomes the first BJP Prime Minister ever to visit the party head-office.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with 25 students during a Pariksha Pe Charcha programme on board a cruise at the Brahmaputra in Guwahati.
He will then pay tributes to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement at the newly-built Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon in Guwahati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will then leave for Dibrugarh where he will lay the foundation stone of the new nano-urea plant at Namrup in Dibrugarh district where he will also address another massive public rally before flying back to New Delhi.
The fertilizer project, it may be mentioned, will be developed at an estimated cost of over Rs 10,600 crore and will be housed within the existing premises of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited, and aims to meet the fertilizer requirements of Assam and the neighbouring States.
