The 15 persons were declared foreigners (Bangladeshis) by the Foreigners’ Tribunal Court in the past
In a massive development, 15 persons of Nagaon district who were earlier declared Bangladeshis by the Foreigners Tribunal Court have been told to leave India within 24 hours.
The Foreigners Tribunal Court had declared Anowar Begum and Asha Khatun of Samaguri; Hussain Ali, Rahim Sheikh, Burek Ali and Idris Ali of Raha; Nazrul Islam of Chaparmukh, Jahara Khatun of Dhing, Abdul Aziz of Nagaon town; Aheda Khatun of Juria; Azufa Khatun of Rupohihat; Fazila Khatun of Jajori; Rustom Ali and Anowar Khan of Kaliabor and Taher Ali of Uluwoni as foreigners (Bangladeshi nationals) in various points in time.
An order issued by Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sarmah dated Dec 17, 2025 (yesterday), has directed that the 15 declared foreigners “remove” themselves “from the territory of Assam, India within 24 hours from receiving the order via the Dhubri/Sribhumi/South Salmara-Mankachar route”.
The order further stated that “in the event of any default in complying with this order, the Governemnt would be compelled to take appropriate action to remove you from the territory of State of Asam, India”
The exercise, the order also stated, was made “under powers conferred under Section 2 of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act. 1950”.
