A scary incident was reported in Guwahati on Thursday morning when a mid-day meal distribution van suddenly caught fire near the old Saraighat Bridge in the Jalukbari area. The fire broke out on the National Highway, one of the busiest roads in the city, leading to panic among daily commuters and a complete halt in traffic movement.
As soon as the flames were spotted, thick smoke covered the road and vehicles were forced to stop. Many people coming to offices and schools were stuck for a long time as traffic piled up on both sides of the bridge. The Mid-day meal van fire caused serious trouble during peak morning hours.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. Firefighters acted quickly and managed to control the blaze before it could spread to nearby vehicles. Their timely action helped avoid a bigger disaster on the busy highway.
