Tripura: A case has been registered under Section 3 of the IPP, Sections 14A and 14B of the Foreigners Act, along with criminal conspiracy charges
A Bangladeshi national found in possession of a fake Indian passport was arrested in Tripura’s capital Agartala on Wednesday, triggering a wider crackdown that led to the detention of two more Bangladeshi nationals for illegally entering Indian territory.
Police said the arrest was made during a joint operation by immigration officials, the Border Security Force (BSF) and West Agartala Police. The prime accused, identified as Pavel, was detained at the Agartala checkpost after immigration officials detected discrepancies in the Indian passport recovered from him. Subsequent verification confirmed that he is a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh.
“After interrogation, his Bangladeshi nationality was established. We are now investigating how he obtained the fake Indian passport and who facilitated it,” said West Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Rana Chatterjee.
Following Pavel’s arrest, police apprehended Daud Sheikh, a resident of Gopalganj district of Bangladesh, while the BSF arrested 20-year-old Munna Mia near the Indian side of the international border close to the Akhaura sector. Munna Mia is also a resident of Brahmanbaria district.
All three accused were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Tripura district. Pavel has been placed under police remand, while further legal proceedings are underway against the others.
A case has been registered under Section 3 of the IPP, Sections 14A and 14B of the Foreigners Act, along with criminal conspiracy charges. Police said the accused have revealed certain names during interrogation, and efforts are on to dismantle the suspected network behind the illegal entry and forged documents.
The arrests come amid heightened security across Tripura following multiple incidents of illegal cross-border infiltration reported on the same day.
