Pandu College Student Found Dead in Hostel Bathroom
A student of Pandu College in Maligaon, Guwahati, was found dead inside a bathroom of the college hostel.
The deceased has been identified as Rubail Alam (22), a resident of Lanka in Hojai district.
Rubail had left the hostel on December 12 without informing the hostel warden.
Later, his brother contacted the warden and informed him that Rubail had gone out and had informed the family.
When Rubail did not return either to the hostel or to his home, his family arrived at the hostel on December 13 and subsequently filed a missing persons complaint with the police on December 15.
As police launched an investigation to trace him, his body was recovered from an unused bathroom of the hostel premises.
Speaking to the media, the hostel warden stated that this was not the first time Rubail had left the hostel without informing the authorities.
“He had done this earlier and later apologised. So, initially, we assumed this time was similar. Moreover, when his brother confirmed that Rubail had gone out and was aware of it, we did not suspect anything unusual,” the hostel warden said.
He further said, “There are 3 bathrooms in the hostel, one of which is non-functional. Even if students noticed that the bathroom was locked, no one imagined that such an incident could occur.”
Police sent the body for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
