The recovered body has been identified as Sagar Gautam, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana.
A week after five men were swept away by the strong currents of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, the NDRF team engaged in the search operation of the missing men recovered another body today.
The body has been identified as that of Sagar Gautam, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana. The body was found near the ICA Water Project intake plant.
On December 10, the five people were swept away while they were attempting to swim near the Kharguli riverfront. Since then, search teams have been working tirelessly to recover the bodies of the missing individuals.
The body of Ronak Chadak from Bongaigaon was recovered on Monday, December 15, while the body of 18-year-old Pratap Rai from Bishwanath Chariali was retrieved earlier on Saturday, December 13, by the search teams.
Search teams are still looking for Upesh Kumar (43) from Bishwanath Chariali and Abhijeet (20) from Guwahati’s Uzan Bazaar, though the chances of finding them alive are now very slim.
The five people were part of a nine-member group who had gone to visit the Bhakti Kutir Krishna temple in Kharguli and then decided to go for the swim in the river. The group included one American and two Australian nationals of Indian origin. After swimming, four members of the group managed to make it back to the riverbank, while the others were swept away by the powerful currents.
