Assam drug bust in Cachar leads to seizure of heroin worth Rs 2.20 crore. Police arrest three young peddlers and probe drug links in Assam.
A major Assam drug bust has once again highlighted the growing fight against narcotics in the state. Cachar police seized heroin worth Rs 2.20 crore during a late-night anti-narcotics operation and arrested three young drug peddlers. The action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, showing how closely police are monitoring illegal drug movement in Assam.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when police stopped a vehicle coming from a neighbouring state. During a thorough check, officers found several soap boxes hidden inside secret chambers of the car. These boxes contained a total of 388 grams of heroin, which officials said has a market value of around Rs 2.20 crore.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, Partha Protim Das, explained how the operation was carried out. “One vehicle bearing registration number MZ-02C-1553 was intercepted and led to the recovery of 30 soap boxes in a total of 388 grams of heroin from the secret chamber of the vehicle,” Partha Protim Das said. He added that the drugs were carefully hidden in different parts of the vehicle to avoid detection.
The operation was conducted in the Dhudhpatil area under the Silchar police station. Police detained three accused who are all in their early twenties. They were identified as Dildar Hussain, aged 25, Nazrul Hussein, aged 20, and Jasim Uddin, aged 25. All three are residents of Bhanga Bazar area under the Dholai police station in Cachar district.
Police also revealed that the vehicle was heading towards Guwahati. “The vehicle was coming from a neighbouring state and going to Guwahati. Legal action has been initiated to find out the forward and backward linkages. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 2.20 crore,” the senior police official stated. Further investigation is underway to identify the larger network involved in this Assam drug bust.
This is not the first big recovery in the district. Just a day earlier, Cachar police seized 90,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 26 crore during another anti-narcotics operation. In that case, drugs were recovered from a secret chamber of a truck intercepted in the Rongpur area under Silchar police station.
Explaining the earlier case, Partha Protim Das said, “One truck bearing registration number AS-01FC-0018 was intercepted and led to the recovery of 90000 Yaba tablets from the secret chamber of the truck.” Two accused, Dalim Uddin Laskar and Abed Sultan Barbhuiya, were arrested in that case.
