Tezpur Medical College Employees have given a 24-Hour ultimatum to the hospital authorities to act against the accused
Protests broke out at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital in Assam and anger raged on among the medical and non-medical staff after a doctor allegedly attacked a fellow doctor.
The accused doctor is said to have harassed multiple employees over time, including engaging in physical altercations in public places.
Employees of the hospital have given a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the suspension and arrest of Dr. Arijit Dutta for allegedly physically and mentally harassing fellow doctors and other staff of the hospital. The medical college staff has warned that if their demands are not met, all hospital services, except emergency OPD, will come to a halt.
Speaking to reporters, one employee said, “He harassed two of our staff members physically and mentally. So, we all have united to protest against this harassment. We demand the arrest and suspension of Dr. Arijit Dutta.”
Another employee added, “If the hospital authorities don’t accept our demands in 24 hours, only the emergency OPD services will be functioning. All other staff will cease work.”
A complaint against Dr. Dutta has been filed at the Bihguri Police Station, and the employees’ union has made it clear that they are prepared to launch an indefinite strike if no action is taken.
Hospital authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the allegations or the ultimatum.
