Five others — three from the same family — were injured in road mishaps that took place on Monday night
At least two persons, including a 5-year-old girl, have been killed while four others seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Assam.
In the first accident at Goreswar, a five-year-old minor girl died while three others, including her father, mother and sister, were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, after their motorcycle bearing registration AS-01-BE-3348 collided head on with another two wheeler (registration number AS-28-D-0396) on Monday night.
The deceased minor has been identified as Meghali Deka while her father Keshab Deka along with his wife and second daughter were seriously injured.
The family of four travelling in the motorcycle hailed from Silkijhar locality of Goreswar while the person driving the second two-wheeler, identified as Chandan Deka, was also injured in the accident.
In the second accident that took place at Alimur in Lahowal in Dibrugarh district of Assam, another person — identified as Mukesh Ghatowar of Timona locality of Lahowal– died on the spot while the pillion rider — Raju Sharma of Alimur, Lahowal — was seriously injured, and is battling for life at Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH) Dibrugarh, after their motorcycle bearing registration number (AS-06-X-9733) was hit by a speeding four wheeler bearing registration number AS-06-AM-3474 at Alimur.
Meanwhile, in hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the National Highway 715 after a goods-carrying trailer truck overturned at Burhapahar on Monday night.
Movement of traffic was later restored after authorities cleared one side of the highway in the morning.
