India’s young batting star Shafali Verma has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for November after her outstanding performance in the Women’s World Cup final. The 21-year-old played a key role in India’s historic title win and impressed fans across the country with her fearless batting on the biggest stage.
Shafali delivered a match-winning knock in the final against South Africa in Navi Mumbai. She scored 87 runs off 78 balls, which became the highest score by an Indian opener in a Women’s World Cup final. Her innings helped India post a strong total of 298 for 7, setting the tone for a memorable 52-run victory.
The young opener shared a solid 104-run partnership with Smriti Mandhana at the top. Their steady start gave India full control of the match and allowed the middle order to play freely. This performance came at a crucial time, as Shafali had returned to the playing eleven as a replacement for injured Pratika Rawal in the semi-final.
Shafali Verma beat Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong and UAE’s Esha Oza to win her first-ever ICC Player of the Month award. This recognition marks a big milestone in her career and highlights her growing importance in Indian women’s cricket.
Speaking after receiving the award, Shafali said, “My first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup experience didn’t go as I expected but it ended far better than I could have ever wished or imagined.” Her words reflected both honesty and joy after achieving something special with the team.
She further added, “I’m grateful that I could contribute to the team’s success in the final and that I was able to be a part of making history in winning the World Cup for the first time and in front of a home crowd.” The home support clearly made the moment even more emotional for the young cricketer.
Shafali dedicated the award to everyone who supported her journey. She said, “I’m truly honoured to be named the Women’s Player of the Month for November. I dedicate this award to my teammates, coaches, family and everyone who has supported my journey until now. We win and lose as a team, the same goes for this award.”
At just 21, Shafali Verma has already shown that she can handle pressure on the biggest stage. Her fearless approach, combined with maturity beyond her age, makes her one of the brightest stars in Indian cricket. With this award, she has taken another strong step forward in what promises to be a long and successful career.
