AIUDF Chief Ajmal said AIUDF will contest the Assembly polls next year alone.
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Chief Badruddin Ajmal has said that he will demolish the ruling BJP’s strong hold over Assam in the coming Assembly elections early next year.
AIUDF won 16 seats in the 2021 elections while BJP won the elections both in 2016 and 2021, and formed the government for two consecutive terms.
AIUDF Chief Ajmal said that his party is ready to contest the upcoming elections without forming an alliance with anyone.
AIUDF Chief said, “the party will continue with its “Ekla Cholo” policy and aims to completely destroy the BJP’s hold from Assam’s political landscape in the 2026 Assembly Polls”.
Ajmal, mocking the opposition leaders, asserted that, “figures such as Raijor Dal‘s Akhil Gogoi and Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi lack a genuine political base and support”. Ajmal attacked Gaurav Gogoi and said, “Gaurav Gogoi somehow won the previous election with meager votes and nobody knows what will happen in the 2026 elections”.
Speaking on the buzz that four legislators from AIUDF are likely to join Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in January 2026, AIUDF Chief Ajmal said that only objection less those legislators with no objective in politics will join AGP and claimed that, “the opposition AGP should not worry about AIUDF as without BJP support, AGP is nothing,”.
Previously in the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly Elections, AIUDF, under Ajmal, won 16 seats out of the total 126. It was an improvement over their previous tally in 2016, when they had won only 13 seats.
AIUDF’s main support base is among the Muslim population of Assam, especially in areas like Barak Valley and parts of central Assam, where their appeal was strongest.
